Erectile Dysfunction(ED) is a sexual disorder among men who, despite having the urge of sex, are unable to perform the act successfully, due to weak erection or no erection most of the times. There are various causes of erectile dysfunction which are given below.
Obesity: Obesity is one of the biggest causes of erectile dysfunction. When a person becomes obese, his blood vessels become constrict and blood flow gets obstructed. Due to insufficient blood flow to penis, the person doesn’t achieve sufficient erection. Obesity also leads to diabetes and high blood pressure. These two health conditions are among the top causes of impotence and erectile dysfunction.
Diabetes: When a man becomes diabetic, his nerves start getting damaged. This leads to blindness, foot problems, paralysis and erectile dysfunction. Diabetes causes erectile dysfunction when nerves get damaged due to high level of blood sugar levels that carry signals from brain to the sexual organs. Smoking: Smoking is another major cause of erectile dysfunction because it causes atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition in which plaque gets deposited on the walls of the arteries that also hardens the arteries. This hinders blood flow to the penis as well to the heart. When blood flow is obstructed to the penis, erectile dysfunction develops and when blood flow to heart is blocked due to atherosclerosis heart attack occurs.
Severe Diseases: Apart from diabetes and hypertension some other severe diseases such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, kidney failure etc also cause erectile dysfunction.
Injury: Testicular injury or spinal cord injury also causes erectile dysfunction because the nerves are damaged.
Lack of Exercise: Men get erection only when required amount of blood reach to their male organs such as penis. But when a man does a sedentary job he doesn’t get enough time to exercise. This increases vitamin K in their body and their blood becomes thick. Their blood vessels also get constricted and lose flexibility that obstructs blood flow to the penis.
Unhealthy Foods: Oily foods, junk foods, processed foods are not good for health and they cause increase in bad cholesterol that hardens the arteries and obstructs blood flow due to plaque deposits on the walls of the arteries. This leads to erectile dysfunction. Such unhealthy foods also cause obesity and diabetes that eventually cause erectile dysfunction.
Mental Problems & Psychological Problems: Brain plays vital role in the performance of any sexual activity. But mental problems such as stress, depression, anxiety and psychological problems such as fear, lack of confidence, guilt etc affect your sexual health and cause erectile dysfunction.
Age: It is a natural factor that causes ED. When a person grows too old, his testosterone hormone level is significantly reduced and hence he can hardly achieve erection.
